Diwali Wrapping Paper
Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights or the Indian New Year. It is an
extensive celebration throughout the Hindu communities. Diwali, which came from
the Sanskrit word Deepavali, means "row of lights." The celebration of Diwali
symbolizes the triumph of good versus evil, where lamps are lit as a sign of
feasting and hope for the human race. Celebrations typically focus on lighting
of traditional lamps called diyas.
Traditional gift-giving is celebrated on the fifth and final day of the Diwali
festival, which is also popularly known as Bhayya Dooj in Hindi-speaking
communities particularly in India. This is observed between a brother and a
sister in the family. It is celebrated through a ceremonial putting of an
auspicious tilak (vermilion mark) by the sister on the forehead of her brother
for protection against evil spirits. In return, the sister is lavished with
gifts and blessings from her brother.
Since the traditional symbol for Diwali is an oil lamp, the typical wrapping
paper that can be used for Diwali gifts must center on the theme of light. The
wrapping papers on the right are typical examples of an appropriate gift-wrap.
Another fitting theme for this occasion is fireworks, since Diwali is a
celebration of New Year in Hindu traditions.
However, do not limit yourself to these designs. There are also simple but
appropriate wrapping papers specific to the celebration of Diwali, available on
the Internet through online stores. If you still can not find a suitable one for
your taste, visit an online shop that prints personalized wrapping papers. Be
ready to pay extra money though. Unlike commercial gift wraps, customized
wrapping papers comes at an extra cost, but they will surely be appreciated, and
there will be no mistaking who the gift came from.
