Child Safety and Wrapping Papers
Creating your own wrapping paper is a fun and relaxing activity for both adults
and children. Besides family bonding, wrapping paper can allow creativity to run
free. Who knows, your child might even display his or her hidden talent in
design and craftsmanship. With some imagination you and your child can fashion
gift wrapping papers that is both elegant and unique.
When you craft wrapping paper with children, remember that depending on your
child's age, they may need help. The following guidelines and tips will help you
stay safe and enjoy creating gift wraps with them.
* Small children will need help most typically with handling sharp objects such
as scissors or cutters. If your child is not ready to cut with either a scissor
or cutter, then by all means, manage all the cutting and let them do all the
drawing and gluing instead.
* Keep in mind that you have to use non-toxic materials, especially if you have
a toddler around. If you are using acrylic paint, make sure that the label says
non-toxic, otherwise, there is a big possibility that the paint is toxic so
always be aware and keep safe. Children have a nasty hand-to-mouth habit so
always treat every material as harmful especially when ingested.
* Small objects should be kept away from small children's reach.
* The work area should be cleaned prior to starting the activity. A typical work
area would be a small table high enough for the children to comfortably work on.
Avoid working on the floor as much as possible. Children might accidentally step
on working materials such as paints, glues, or any sharp or pointed tools.
* If you are using recycled grocery bags and other types of bags, make sure
nothing is in their area that they can put their head in or cover their mouths
with that is air tight which might cause suffocation.
* Teach children from an early age about the dangers of chemicals such as paint
and glues as well as the do's and don'ts of using sharp or pointed objects and
any other material you might be using.
Always remember, safety must always come first. There is much joy in giving and
there is also a much greater joy in sharing happy moments with your family.
Happy wrapping!
