Alternatives to Wrapping Paper
There are a whole lot of traditional, store-bought wrapping papers nowadays.
They come in different style, quality and design. However, wrapping paper that
you decorated yourself adds a truly individual touch to any gift package. Not to
mention the amount of money that you are going to save if you use conventional
materials found in your home.
But when it comes to packaging a gift, there are far more unique and creative
ways than crafting your own wrapping paper or buying an expensive one at your
local gift shop. These alternatives can be equally elegant, practical, and are
reusable.
If you are not the do-it-yourself type of person, but are tight on the budget,
consider wrapping alternatives such as letting your children draw pictures on
white craft or butcher paper using drawing pens, crayons, water colors or
colorful markers. You can use this paper to wrap children's gifts for birthdays
or wrapping gifts for grandparents.
Used decorative gift boxes can be cleaned and adorned with flowers and metallic
ribbons at the top. This will save you a lot of money not only for the gift
carton, but also on wrapping paper. Just add a small but nice greeting card to
go with the box. Besides, it's the thought that counts.
An alternative to paper is to use fabric to wrap your gifts. Most fabric shops
have discontinued fabrics or fabric scraps in the remnant bins which are
inexpensive. For instance, you could use velvet or velour to wrap winter holiday
presents and harmonize it with metallic ribbon that contrasts the color of the
fabric to make your gift elegant. Scarves, towels, cloth napkins or tablecloths
can be used to wrap gifts as an alternative to paper. The fabric will then serve
as a gift itself.
Bottled gifts are the most flexible materials to wrap because you can just
package them in simple fabric and adorn with a flower or decorative ribbon. If
you want a classier look, try using a linen bottle bag. This is ideal for wines,
whiskeys, and other bottled gifts that you would like to appear expensive.
